NO! is the answer(s) to your questions. This is a COMMON misunderstanding and i think that this is causing alot of dudes alot of grief. Here is the deal -- The Mikuni carbs are flowed INDIVIDUALLY and the optimun A/F screw setting is found and set. EACH CARB IS UNIQUE AND HAS ITS OWN OPTIMAL SETTING !!! is that clear? so just because left is 2.5 turns, that DOESN'T mean the right is also. Just cuz your buddy's left carb is 3 turns, yours could be 2 turns !!! OK, OK???? That is why Yamaha is VERY clear ( also in the service manual) that BEFORE you go adjusting the screw, you need to record the FACTORY setting for each carb. Once you know that, you can change to your hearts content, but always set it back to "stock". and each raptor's "stock" setting IS DIFFERENT. Weird, but true. Yamaha states that the stock setting is between 2-3 turns. That is true, generally. If yours is 3.5 turns, don't sweat it.
Also, i have seen posts saying that you turn IN the screw to RICHEN the mixture. WRONG! the a/f screw on the raptor is turned OUT (CCW) to richen it. Other carbs are different. Hope this clears things up.
BTW, my "stock" settings are:
LT - 2.25 turns from seated.
RT - 2.5 " "
How 'bout YOU!!!??? (no, plz. i could care less. it's a JOKE ! ) later.
