Well i have a Raptor with about 5hours on it,all stock BUT i did gutt the air box snorkle. It has all stock carb settings. If it is idleing and you stab the gas it with backfire and grab rpm very weak? And when driving very weak will miss and stuff. Now if i turn choke on it is ALOT better is this a lean deal? All my carb boots are all on.I have the CT racing kit coming in the mail just put on and jett to there specs?Removeing the gutts from snorkle does that much??They jett them that lean stock??PLease HELP Thankyou Skydog

The airbox inlet boot has restrictions and the carb jetting and diaphram spring are calibrated (balanced) to the airbox volume to provide best overall throttle response and torque (removing carb top rubber sheet cover also will affect this). Any mod to the airbox and inlet will affect the back pressure and performance.

Aftermarket jetting kit may help but only at sacrafice to other areas (low end response, mid range torque, etc). Like they say, you can't have the cake and eat it too.

Best recommendation, stock is ****.

This is just a thought, but you might check the switch that does that sort of thing when the parking brake is on. I am not sure, but that may be the problem. Just trying to help and hope that is it. I was told by my dealer that sometimes that comes out of adjustment and causes the symptoms you describe.

I took the snorkle off mine too for a few hours once. It lost low end torque but didn't do anything you are describing. I would check that emergency brake switch too. In fact, disable it. Just trace the two wires down behind the radiator. Reach in there with a long screw driver and release the tap that snaps the wires into the harness.

Doesn't it respond any differently if you do leave the emergency brake on and try to rev it versus taking the emergency brake off?

I tryed removing the e-brake switch but the problem is still there,it is working fine, a guy at CT Racing told me if they idle to low it will do this, something to do with the auto commpression relese.I turned idle up still does it Dam--,so i turned the idle way down to see what he was talking about. And it did run even worse so he was right but not my problem. You guys dont think it is just to lean? Thankyou for your input guys!I will get this figured out just hard to sleep until i do!!Ha-Haa Being it runs good with choke on full when hot it has to be to lean! (i hope)

DON'T LISTEN TO MR "STOCK IS ****" YOU ARE LEAN. I PUT A PRO DESIGN KN FILTER ON AND CUT THE BAFFLES OUT OF MY SNORKLE AND HOLY XXXX DID IT LEAN IT OUT. I FIRST WENT TO A 145-150 MAIN JET, AND STILL A WHITE PLUG SO NOW I GOT 150-155 MAIN AND WENT FROM A 22.5 PILOT JET TO A 25 PILOT AND MAN WHAT A BIG POWER GAIN!!! RUNS GOOD THREW ALL RPMs THE STOCK FILTER SYSTEM SUCKS!

THEY ARE LEAN FROM YAMAHA

sounds lean to me, changing the airbox makes a big diff on a stock (unjetted) machine, you really DONT want to break in your new motor lean, it will run way too hot, and shorten your engine life. check your plug, jetting is a pain but well worth the trouble

Hey Vmax12, better stick with streets on your max. You have no clue on the dirt. Have you gutted the airbox on your max? Oh ya it runs great right?? Not without dynojet kit but will the shaft hold up or can you use all that power? Will the tire hook up? Put a slick on it and a wheelie bar. Will the clutch and tranny hold up? Where is the gas mileage? Is it smooth and user friendly? How's the intake noise? Oh, now you need a new exhaust to make the engine breath. Is it too loud? Where are you going with this?

As a manufacturer like Honda and Yamaha and any other major player, first they have to consider all of the questions I've asked. Not to mention liability and safety. How much power is too much - when the unfortunates sue the company because they put it to their head and pulled the trigger.

Everything must be taken into consideration when designing and putting the products into consumer's hand. At the same time, the product must be competative, light weight, agile, reliable,
safe, and cost effective.

To meet these reqirements, engineering must put the product through intense testing and find the cutting edge of balance between all the components.

When you start modifying the components, remember that you're off setting the very fragile balance in the design. (like off balancing the mother nature).

Everyone always want more power. It's great and easy to get more power. But ask yourself this. Is the clutch going to hold up? Let's beef up the clutch. Will tranny hold up? If it does, will the swing arm and rear end hold up? How about the frame? Is the machine user friendly now? Where's the gas mileage and emissions? Or now the front end is not fit for the mod? Will dealer assist me with my frankenstien? Don't bother calling manufacturer for assistance unless you plan on lying, like lying to your doctor - can they really help you based on lies?

Look at the big picture. Life is too short and there are more important issues than your own franken toy problems. Stock is **** because (first, you can't ride it to its full potential anyway) chances are you won't have any problem and if you do, the dealers/manufacturers can assist so that you can deal with your bigger problems like high blood pressure and cholesterol or kids. Leave it stock and you'll sleep better.

Toys are for fun, not to be destructive, dangerous or create frustration. Play safe and be courteous to others. Protect our sports and freedom.
