I've owned a 2001 blaster since it was brand new and I finally took a spin on a brand new 400EX lastnight. I was not inpressed at all. Don't get me wrong, it's a great machine, it just wasn't what I expected. The suspension and overall handling felt great and although the EX is heavier it feels lighter. I was very surprised at the engine. I am used to a quick reving and quick responding throttle and the EX just doesn't have that. I did like it a lot, but my blaster just has other things I like. Both machines have good and bad points. I think I'm just partial to the two stroke powerband.

Once you ride a 2 stroke it is hard to get used to riding a 4 stroke. The acceleration just doesn't cut it.

Obviously, being new the 400 was probably bone stock right??? All the manufacturers detune their machines for liability reasons (and it's up to us to fix that!). Of all the 4-strokes, the 400 probably has the best bottom end. It's hard to match the thrill of a 2-stroke powerband though.

That's a TOUGH one there tuff nutz!! I ride with lots of bikes and I must say that 2 strokes are just better. A 400ex is a sweet bike (throw a pipe on it), but the Blaster is so responsive and you can mod the hell out of er!! Personnaly I would go with the 400 cuz its bigger. Im 6.2 240 so I need a big bike. AHHHHH, I don't know dude that peppy lil Blaster don't mess around. My brother and my co-worker both have 200's and my 2 friends (who r brothers ride 400's) They are very close when racing, and probably just as fun as the other. You make the call.

I'm surprised at your disappointment with the 400EX. My son rides a Blaster and I used to ride a 400EX. The 400EX you tried must need some tuning, because the 400EX should be WAY faster than a stock Blaster. If the air screw and needle are not set correctly the throttle response will be poor. It's true that 2-strokes rev quicker, but the 400EX has such a huge HP and torque advantage over the Blaster, it should have felt plenty responsive. It fact most new comers to the 400EX have trouble keeping the front end on the ground.

my 400 feels slow and all that compared to my lt but... i have rode many many blasters. and before i had my 400 i was riding my friends 400 and then i got off and rode my other friends blaster. i was used to the blaster and the 400. the blaster felt so wimpy compared to the 400! the blaster was all stock tho but i was a afraid i was gonna break the damn thing. i bent the grab bar on it too. it was pretty fun but it wasn't anything compared to the 400. u can say i'm biased or whetever but i'm not. i know what its like having a 2 stoke then going to a 4 stroke.

WHY would someone buy a machine so plagued with problems.
You want to have the biggest baddest quad on the block or what?
Guess what. Raptors are a dime a dozen, man.
Aint nothin special about your raptor. Its gonna break just like the rest of them.
ME? I like to be confident that my machine is going to get me back home.

If you like the hit of a two stroke and want to mave up in performance you aught to look at a Banshee, not an EX. The only dirt machine that hits harder is a KX500.
