Question for you guys. Yesterday I was messing around and I took the top off the airbox on my 99 Wolverine. I went for a quick ride (with the seat back on of course) and noticed a substantial gain in mid-range torque. Is this a smart thing to do? Just for your info I usually ride alone on trails which aren't dusty and my only water crossing is maybe 6" deep so I'm not worried about sucking water in it. It also had a very satisfying deep growl to it now....comments/suggestions??? I'd like to keep the setup but not if it's going to hurt something....

You might want to check my reply to "How to keep the filter in Place" In this forum from the other day.The same thing applies to the Wolverine. If you're going to run without a lid then you need to replace the filter system with one that doesn't need the lid to hold it in place. In any case you will need to rejet in order to correct the lean condition that you create by increasing the air intake. I believe the stock main jet is a 145, same as the Warrior Replace it with a 150 main jet & put the jet needle in the center slot if it is not already there

I'll check on the Pro Design system you talked about. Where do I get different jets? From Yamaha?

Well Yamaha certinly would have them, but any cycle accessory shop near you could order a jet for you and maybe a little cheaper altho they're only about $4. They could order the Pro Design filter system also. They are $99 any where you go . On the jet, mikuni uses two different types of main jets... a round head with a screwdriver slot & and a hex head, so you'll need to specify which type you have as they aren't interchangable. When you take the main jet out you can check the size while you're at it to make sure it is a 145. It is stamped on the top if it's a round head.

I kept the airbox on mine, drilled 6 one inch holes, 4 in lid, 2 in rear of box and put in the Uni inserts, put on a Pro Flow with clamp on K&N. I run a 155 main, but may go higher.. havent had chance to test it yet.
