im at looking at a 1993 banshee that is for sale. It is in great condition but has a small crack on the clylinder head. Besides that, the bike is supper clean. There is many things done to it including porting and polishing (but will be gone with new head? is it posible to by preported heads?). I will need to replace the head and get new pistons. He is selling it for $1700. Is this i good price? and how much do you think it costs for a new head and pistons? thanx for any replies.

Well...the head is not too bad. I would probably replace the head with something like a cool head for around $300. Pistons can run another couple of hundred, plus the price of cleaning up the jugs. So If that is the only problem...I would say 5-6 hundred dollars for repair work depending on how much of the work can be done by you.

More importantly, I would wonder about what made a head crack...running lean? Grenaded piston? Too much compression? How much damage was done to the lower half of the engine?

Those are important concerns for me.

The asking price is not off base...But I think I would expect it to run.

If the jugs need replacing...you could be looking at much more money depending on how fancy you want to get.
