Busted Raptor Tranny-Yamaha thinks it's funny
#1
My quad is 5 months old. I was out riding when suddenly, i went to take a turn and she just STOPPED! I said "(poop) MAN!, Now my tranny is Busted". I tried to shift it down to first, and it shifted, however, when i went to take off, it sounded like my chain was skipping over the sprocket, however it was in the tranny! It did, however shift and operate fine, however the noise was so bad i was scared of wrecking it more so i tried reverse, and it diden't make the sound so i had to drive home 2 miles in reverse (good thing it's fast in reverese) but anyway, the sound got louder, faster at a faster speed and made no noise in nuetral while rolling. Anyway, i brought it to the dealer, and mind you, it is stock execpt for yellow plastics, and they said if the clutch was abused they(yamaha) won't pay! now, i ride my quad every week, for the weekend straight, and I think there will be some evedent clutch wear (due to weak clutch) so i am scared they won't pay to fix it. Also, mind you i have a 1989 warrior and have ridden it the same way(actually harder) and it is totally fine. Go figure,, has anyone heard of this problem, is it that 2nd gear thing, and will Yamaha be likely to pay? thanks for any info.

If you are that worried about the clutch put a new one in before you take it back to the dealer. Also, a worn clutch would have nothing to do with the junk second gear we have in our $6,500 raptor. I haven't had a problem yet but am anticipating one, that's why I got the extended warranty. I suggest you do the same just incase it happens again. If your dealer gives you any crap ask to speak with their dealer rep. and then corporate if necessary.
