Airbox mods
#1
I'm takin everyones advise on modifying my 98 wolverine's intake system. Can someone spell out to me exactly where to drill the lid without makin it to vulnerable to the mud bogs. Also if I go with a Pro-Flow system do I also need to replace the box to carb tube? If so what's the best way to seal it? What size main jet should I start with? Thanks for all the great advice, It's nice to get away from all those biased dealer opinions!!

It would be stupid to drill some hole if your airbox if you go muddin or play in water a lot. I doubt there is a place where it would not be vulnerable. But maybe u could add another airbreather by boring out a 2 inch hole then stickin some pvc pipe in it and route it up around your handle bars.

Mud_Runner,
I run thePro design system on my Warrior & I am going to assume that yours is basically the same.
you don't need to replace the boot to the carb..you'll have to remove the air box & drill two holes in the end to mount the aluminum billet that holds the new filter. Full instructions come with the kit & it's quite simple to install. You do have to make sure the o-ring supplied fits correctly between the billet & the airbox, so that it is water tight. I run a Moto force vented lid from Jas. Lucky. The vents are elongated on the right side of the box so that a moderate amount of water will by- pass the filter, going to the bottom of the box. You can remove the drain plug in the box to let the water out. Unless you just sink the bike, it should work fine.
BTW, according to Jas Lucky, the Moto force lid allows 90% of the air flow that no lid passes, still giving water protection.
For the main jet, if this is the only mod you're doing, I'd run a 150 main. Your stock is a 145, but unless you are sure of the type you should pull it and check b4 buying a new one. Yamaha uses two different styles inter-changeably within the same model & year; a round head with a screwdriver slot & a smaller hex head type. They're about $3.
