hey i just wanted to let everyone know how i ended up resolving my problems with the tranny on my Raptor. first things first, the have to strat off with saying if it were not bluetrax x i would have gotten screwed by Yamaha on this tranny 2nd gear problem. thanks to this board and the members who visit this web site i collected all MY info on this matter here.

well it turns out after several calls to my dealer and Yamaha Motors about my tranny problems, Yamaha decided it was in there best interst to refund my $350 bucks i had payed for the repairs. they originally said the problem was due to "operator error, a mis shift".....bull$hit. so after they "good willed" the repairs (damage was $1300) on the my Raptor and left my with a bill of $350 i called Yamaha Back and asked to speak to a supervisor, actaully i wanted to come down in person and sharre with them my pictures and ideas on the tranny problem, they didn't feel i needed to appear in person so we talked about it over the phone. in talking to him about my concerns about the problem re-occuring in the future and how that was a major concern of mine, he stopped me and asked me if i had to pay for the repairs, i told him i came out of my own pocket $350, apperently he had no knowledge that i had payed. so he asked me if Yamaha refunds my money back would that keep me happy and not to bad mouth Yamaha in web sites. i had told him that i gathered my info from message boards such as this, i had to allmost threaten them that i was going to goto the ATV magazines and tell them about my problems. it's pretty sad that i had to do this in my own defence but $1300 bucks is not chump change.

but fair is fair, Yamaha Motors did good on the warrenty and picked up the bill. so my words to any other raptor owners out there with a 2nd gear tranny problem, is to not take any $hit when Yamaha tells you it was your fault, you have rights. i was ready to take them to court. i still like my Raptor, it's the king of quads. well that my two cents on the matter. below is a link to the first place i took the bike riding after it was fixed, Redlands Cailfornia. nice place

hey bro if ya could email me what the info you have gathered, my tranny is goin' and i'm starting to get the run around, i would like to avoid this. and if a artical in the atv mags, and a little bad mouthing on web sites causes yamaha, to recall the bike i guess i'll be the one who starts this. i am a true yamaha fan, but the way they have left me in the cold is a little more than i can stand, its as if we 2001 raptor owners don't matter to them, we as a group need to make them realize this is unacceptable behavior!
don't sing it..........bring it!

mrtrdrvr, yeah i called customer service at Yamaha Motors and spoke with a guy named jordan.

sinner660, at the bottom of my post is a link to all my info i've collected on this problem, mostly my own posts, but also theres several letters on this one web site that i know will come in handy if were ever to go to court. check it out, let me know what u think. just print out everthing for your own records and let me know as well if u find anything new. with u being a Raptor owner yourself and working on this board i don't know how hard it would be to research any old posts on this subject, but i know there several around. u might wanna try ATV Connection as well. that would be great if u wanted to start a class action suite against Yamaha Motors. i'd be in on it just cuz they pissed me off accusing me that it was due to operator error and they wanted to "good will" it for me cuz im a first time Yamaha owner. i hope $hit does hit the fan in a court of law against Yamaha cuz they don't wanna admit to being in the wrong about this whole issue that i know is a world wide problem for Raptor owners. if u think about it why would shops such as CT Racing come up with a gear set to fix the problem? i would even drive down to Whittier California and try to lobby Alan the owner to see if we could put together something as far as taking Yamaha to court, weather or not he'd decide to help or not is his decision, but i'd take to time to go and talk with him about this matter if u were serious enough to file a suite.

some one of this message board knows a brother, uncle, cousin that's a lawyer, like u said if we stick together on this matter we have a case here i know it.

one last point on this Raptor tranny problem, i've owned and still have Honda 250R ATC's that are 20 years and another that is 15 years old (86' 250R) that i've never once had a bull$hit problem with a tranny in any of them, i've pounded the crap out of them and there still up and running, to me theses things are bulletproof, they kick ***. even today the 86' 250R is the most prized three wheeler around. with that being said their engineers at Honda know did something right when they put this thing together, u would think that Yamaha would pick up some pointers from ALL the years they been in the field and for them to sell a top of the line sports quad with this type of a problem and not acknowledge it being a problem is bull. the Raptor has been on the market to the general public for a year now, now is when any production problems are going to start to occour.
