Wolverine Rev Limiter
#1
I'm a little confused about the rev limiter on my Wolv. What's it for? Why is it there? And if it is improporly adjusted, could it affect my bike's top end performance even if I'm not using the park brake to which it is attached? My brother's stock Wolv can slightly overtake my modified in the top end, and his theory is that my rev limiter is set so as to not allow my bike to rev out as high as his. Is this possible?

Actually your correct Boomer. They did put a rev. limiter on the 99 and up models for the parking brake, but this does not effect normal operation. Actually all a rev. limiter is, is a CDI box that with a crank sensor increases ignition timing with RPM to a limit. That limit is your rev. limiter.
No more timing advance, no more increase in RPM. On the Wolverine, the rev. limiter is not what is stopping your RPM increase, its the resistance in head flow. I have a modded 95 Wolverine that will hit 8000-9000 RPM with no CDI modifications.

My bike isn't a '99 or up. It's a '96, and it does have a mechanisim on the park brake that I assume is a rev limiter. There is a cable from the park brake to the carb which is pulled and locked in place when you pull your park brake on. When this is locked on, the bike will not rev up much beyond the idleing point, even when you hit the accelerator. It will spit, sputter, and fart, but it will not rev up. In effect.... it limits the revs. Isn't this a rev limiter? My brother's '98 Wolv has the same thing.
