Got 'em both. Raptor wins points for agility, reverse,,,,flys and wheelies better,,,,better gas mileage.
.....DS is smoother, bigger, beefier, more reliable, better quality, better for big guys, over 6' or over 180lbs.
....Raptor is better for MX and woods. DS great on wider trails and desert, like out west.
....Right now you can steal a DS for $5300, or wait for a tricked out Baja. Raptors need wider axles, DS need upper A-arms. They both need better front shocks.
....They are both great machines. My son loves his Raptor best, I like the DS best. Our new 660 Grizz sucks hind tit behind these two.

I would go with the Raptor. Both are really nice machines, it's just that the Raptor has earned better ratings then the DS650. That's not to say that the DS is a bad machine because I don't think that it is. I have never ridden a DS, but I have ridden a Raptor once and liked it a lot. I own a 400ex right now and possibly thinking about buying a Raptor some day. The Raptor is the machine that I would own right now if the 400ex never existed. It has awesome power and handling similar to a 400ex.

It all kind of depends on where are think that you are going to ride the most. The DS is good for riding in dunes and the Raptor is good for MX, dunes, trails, and things like that. I know that it is a tough decision to make, but I think that the Raptor would be a better choice. That's my 2 cents worth.

I have a raptor, I ride with a few guys that have ds650.

BOTH machines have flaws, Both have there weeknesses.

I have not met a person who does not like the raptor.
I have not met a person who does not like the ds650.

99% of the people are happy with what they chose.

Raptor smaller, more nimble, great for tight trails.
Ds650 is more bulky, seems to have a slight edge on sand.

6ft 230lbs plus go with ds.
smaller person go with raptor.

My 2 cents Both awesome machines!!

Either machine will do nicely. The DS is huge, the Raptor a good deal smaller. Just have to figure out the type of terrain you ride. If it's wide open country I'd personally go with the DS. For woods, dunes, all over the Raptor wins (the DS just doesnt fit!) Btw, if you havent been into Acuna, it's a fun trip.....I remember the days in Boystown there.... hehe
