now that I have the engine done (~686cc), I figure my clutch wont hold up for too much longer. whats the best clutch replacement strategy? replace drive (steel or aluminum), and friction plates (carbon fiber or kevlar),basket, boss, springs or just some combo?. hinson, barnett? anyone have good or bad reports? I appreciate any feedback thanks

Barnett is the only one I know making clutch plates and I havnt heard any complaints, the hinson basket seems a bit pricey and not sure if its worth it. I hear you have to jack the motor up to pull the clutch, let me know how that goes

I guess I am asking the tough questions, thanks for the reply 1rap I did find a barnett kit but it only had fiber plates. I did see a posting on changing to the 6 spring clutch, but not getting any user feedback. thats the way it is when you are on the "bleeding edge"

Hey vraptor, I dont really have any info for you, except it seems like raptor720 has a 6 spring kit that he sells for around $300.

I do have a question.

What type of kit did you do for the 680? Was it a complete kit? Did you have to pull the engine out of the chasis? did you have someone else do it or do it yourself?

Basically tell me more, Please?

Thanks for any info you could give

I'll check with 720 on the clutch kit thanks
for my engine mods what I did was to try to do the same thing trinity does to its 680: I used a J&E 102mm 11:1 high compression piston, a webcam 696/697 grind cam, custom springs (with some help from 720raptor thanks), and a polish and port from a local yamaha dealer who promised to flow test (chancey there). I just dont have the tools to bore my cylinder and a home polish and port is certain disaster. I just couldnt bring myself to send off my motor for a 3-4week wait from trinity since I only have one quad these days. it really runs strong though I still have some break in to do before I feel the full effect. I went from 140/142 main jets to 146/148 and I may still be a bit lean on the low end.

Raptor720 knows the only intelligent way to solve your clutch worries. He has found a way to addapt a YZ clutch to your Raptor. You will be very well served to speak with him about it. He told me that it cost him around $300 to do it himself, so I don't know if he will do the work and sell it for that, but I'll bet he will at least help you do it.

I had the opportunity to speak with Raptor720 on the phone today for a good amount of time, and I can honestly say, you Raptor owners are lucky to have someone with his experience and knowledge to help you out.
