I just got my 2001 Kodiak. Bought it used...sort of. I guess it's considered a demo. It's a few months old, but the factory warranty started when I picked it up. It has some bruises and scatches, but nothing major.

What should I consider as mods? Some of my riding is off the beaten path, making my own trails, sometimes on lightly travelled trails and the rest on better trails.

I've already installed a Warn2000 winch. I was thinking of a skid plate, c.v. brush guards, hand guards, and maybe a lift kit after the warranty expires. Tires will come when I wear out the stockers.

Any other suggestions? Any experience with skid plates and/or lift kits on the Kodiak? Does an after market skid plate take away some of the ground clearance? Do they generally reach back to protect the rear driveshaft boot? Does a 1-1.5" lift kit cause a lot of extra wear on the c.v. joints or any steering geometry problems?

Thanks fo any input.

As far as skid plates go, I wouldn't waste the money. Stock does just fine. You talk about getting tires after stock wears out. I wouldn't wait until then, because that's the best mod you can make to the quad. I'd also suggest a locker for the front end since it's limited slip.

HI FKNA!
I have a 2000 Kodiak and want to get new tires and wheels. I checked out your pics and you quad looks great with the Mud Runners. I want to put 25" or 26" Mud Runners but Im not sure wether to go 25" or 26". Do you have any problems with the 26" tires rubbing or interfering with anything? I want to get new aluminum wheels but I don't want to put any lift kits or spacers on. Did you lose much power with the 26" tires? I have a 1500 Super Winch and the motor sticks out the left side. I'm alittle concerned about the tires hitting the motor, but I can move it over a bit if I have to. Any info will be greatly appreciated. THANK YOU!!! I have a "slight" rubbing problem with the front right tire when making hard right turns. Other than that, no rubbing anywhere. And the rubbing that I do get is nothing to worry about, as I said...it's slight.

Yes, I did lose power once putting on the 26" tires since they are much heavier. But I put on a clutch kit afterwards and that solved that problem.

Two other questoion. I want to get aluminum wheels. Which are better, Douglas .190 or ITP Magnums? Does anybody have problems with road salt pitting the aluminum?
