I guy who lives in my city is selling a banshee that he claims has a different motor put into it. Have any of you guys out there heard of replacing the stock banshee 350 with a street version 350. He says it is still a dual cylinder and that it's supposed to be faster than the regular banshee engine. What street engine would this be and is it better, like the guy claims? Any imput would be great, I'm trying to join the yamaha family so any help would be appreciated.

 

It sounds like an RZ 350 engine to me. I got mixed up in a conversation last week with some guys on here about the subject myself. Those guys know their stuff on the RZ.

Kiwi_Craig on here is going to be the only guy on here that's going to know the information you want. He is in New Zealand and only comes on here late,late at night. Sorry to waste a post on your topic without giving you any info. but I thought I would at least let you know of the guy to listen to regarding the RZ engine.

The motor is a rz350, it is a power valved motor so of course it is more powerful. The topend will bolt on a banshee so why change out the whole motor iam not sure. I'am sure the gear ratios would be inferior in a quad. Just my .02.

 

isn't the rz350 air cooled? i know the early ones were, but i'm not sure about the later models.

 

The Banshee motor was originally a non-powervalved RZ engine. They are both liquid cooled, and I believe thae early year 'shee's came with the same gearing (primaries and all) as the RZ's. If they guy got a whole motor that ran good, it was probably easier just to bolt that in instead of doing all the motor work required to mix the motor parts. All the banshee pipes and carbs bolt up perfectly, along with piston (except ones that have the intake advanced, like vito's, becuase the powervalve already takes care of that. If it's in nice shape for a good price, I say jump on it!

 

Thanks for the info guys, I may have to take a closer look. Two other questions though, can you put aftermarket banshee pipes on this engine or do they have to be RZ pipes? And also should this thing out perform a regular banshee?

 

Yes to both...an RZ motor will take a banshee pipes, and with the powervalve it will make more usable power.
