Everything I've read states around the 72mph range and judging by all the raptors I'm forced to ride with, I believe it. If that guy was only getting mid 60's then he better check some filters or plugs cuz that puppy aint runnin right.

 

I have raced 4 250r's, All sounded nice, Ran strong.
1 stock, 2 with light mods. 1 extreme amount of mods.

They usually pull ahead slightly off the line.
By the top of 3rd your usually tied, end of 4th I was about a quad length ahead.
End of 5th He hit his peak. and Im passed and keep going.
I only lost to the one, he admitted he put over 6000 in mods. He totaly left me off the line, pulled away and I choked on sand, I didn't catch him till 5th gear, And it took the length of the lakebed to get close. I raced them a few times just to be sure, and the results were fairly close.

I will also say yeah I bellieve for the most part my raptor is faster on drag and topspeed, But on the track, jumps, Forget it, They are a awesome handling machines.
I would love to have a 250r for track racing.

I posted this in a different article, I figured I'd post it again for your benefit.

Had a great weekend with a group of guys in the lakebed.
All were Awesome riders, And lookin forward to another great ride in the near future.

non stock shocks, A-arms, Swing arm.

Banshee - stock
BansheeA- piped, jets, filter, Cool heads. Works front and rear shocks. Who knows what else?

Blaster - piped, jets, air filter
ds650 - pipe not stock?? not sure what it was??
yz125 - stock
warrior - big gun exhaust,
440ex - e series exhaust, filter, jet kit. Pro series shocks,A-arms, Swing arm. 440 kit

I have a Garmin Gps, recorded top speed over a 2 1/2 mile straight.
Each machine had two runs with the gps.

440ex -71.3
Blaster -64.8
warrior -63.8

Every race raptorA got the jump off the line. But BansheeA Wound them in quickly. To pass and hold top speed.

We then set up a small track with one large jump, and a very twisty
S-turn that lead to a short straight whoops, turn, long straight,
Wide sweeping bend back to the finish. We recorded top speed and time, Turns marked with cones. We ran the track Multiple times for practice. Dude On Blaster!! NICE SAVE!!!

I own the mostly stock raptor.
Gotta say..Dude on the 400ex is the wheelie king. Undisbuted!!!

If you wanna admit which machine you were thats up to you..

Just because I was faster on top speed than the modified raptor. He Left me in the dust on the line and track. The same goes for the 400ex.

Id was most surprised on the track by the 400ex.
Was not expecting him to turn the times he did.

I was surprised in the acceleration of the ds650 for the size.

As far the quickest up to est. 1/8 mile or so.
Mark a start point, marked a end point then raced.

My recordings!! Out of all these guys, I rode with the yz125 and ds650
a few times before we did this.

Since the above post dated on 11/6/01. I have did some changes to my raptor.
Finally got the bike jetted properly, And added a Gytr muffler. I went back to the lake bed with the same gps. I rode with the guy on the yz125 and the ds650 again.

Raptor. - 75.81
yz125. - 77.46
ds650. - 75.16

All three machines ran faster than previous recorded times.
I have a Garmin GPS the recording accuracy for speed is .15 mph flex on 9 satelites.
So It's fairly accurate. 11/24/01 9am (pacific)
