My first ATV
#1
just picked up my first atv. it is a new green 2001 Kodiak 4x4. picked it up today and spent about an hour riding it on our little farm. all i can say is WooT!
i like the dealer (Blue Ridge Yamaha and Polaris), love the bike, and think yamaha is doing some good stuff for sport and utility atv'ers. y'all probably know this, but yamaha has a free first time atv owner rider course which i think i'll go to for the heck of it.
even better, yamaha has an incentive for first time owners where they pay *me* $75 to attend if i have a "suitable" helmet. if i have an "snell approved" helmet, they up the incentive to a $100 check. i guess they want to limit the number of novice accidents so that the whole sport maintains a less dangerous reputation.
my thanks to all the folks on this forum for "telling it like it is" which i feel helped me make the best decision. i was considering the honda rancher, the polaris 500 HO, and in the end the kodiak. after reading all the relevant posts in those three forums, and some other forums like aytvsource.com and atvnation, i felt the most comfortable i've ever felt dropping a chunk of change that large on a car/bike/tractor etc... the internet and all you netizens are incredible.
now i'll keep an eye out for the water pump issue and all the other more minor bugs mentioned by the kodiak veterans.
later all...
