New Banshee Frame from Yamaha
#1
I am in the process of piecing together a Banshee and have everything but the Frame.
Since I live in California I have to register it with the DMV. Does anyone now if I purchase a new frame from Yamaha if it comes with a title?
Has anyone done this in California?
Thanks for any help.

I'm not sure how it works in Cali but in other states if a vehicle does not have a vin you can apply your own number. It's called OAN "Owner applied number" and then request a title from DMV. The OAN is just a number you make up and engrave or stamp on part of the veh that you can identify if its ever stolen.

It's been a year now since I've ordered a frame for someone from Yamaha, but the way they did do it was that you had to supply your dealer with the VIN# currently on your quad and Yamaha stamped the VIN# on the new frame before shipping it to your dealer.
That way, the VIN# is ran through a data base to make sure the machine hasn't been stolen or considered totalled by an insurance company. If either comes up, Yamaha will deny you the purchase of the frame and you will have to buy one used.
Yamaha has nothing to do with issueing titles. You will have to register your VIN# through your local chancery clerks office and apply for a title. Again, make sure the frame you use has an elligible VIN# that won't have the police knocking on your door. That may sound like I am going overboard on this subject, but believe me,It happens to more people than you think.
