Keep in mind when making references to the DRZ400 motorycle engine, that there are THREE different models of the DRZ400 being produced. I saw an arguement on here about a month ago when a few guys were disputing compression ratio numbers. Both of them were correct, but the two different ratios are in two different models.

The most powerful DRZ400 stock is the "off-road/kick start" version. It has 38.4 HP, weighs in at 268, and has a top speed of 80mph.

[Source: DirtBike Magazine/Sept. '00/ Article: Real Numbers]

From what I have seen regarding the specs. on the LTZ400 engine..it will use a engine from the "dual-purpose/elec. start" version of the DRZ400S.
It has a lower compression ratio and slightly less HP, but can't find any exact figures yet. Sorry

I guess to sum it up, I will have to agree that there is no way you are gonna get 52HP from an engine only by putting on a pipe when the stock numbers are just under 40HP. That would be a 25% increase in horsepower!! Would be great if it was that easy though.

I wouldnt buy the Craptor! Look at all the tranny problems on 2001's. 2002's haven't been out long enough to see what will happen. I own a 400ex and a Banshee. I would go with 400 ex. "proven reliability",but if you can wait, see how the Suzuki turns out. It looks like a really good quad.

red rider...you say the suzuki looks like a real nice machine. can you please remind me which quad it looks like? also,have you ever owned a raptor? i would also be willing to bet that you have never had a single problem with your ex either. do you honestly think that when the suzuki comes out it will be flawless? i think not. it might or might not be better than the raptor, but i would guarantee that it will have problems too.

{TYPER-BRO}

YOU RAPTOR GUYS HAVE GOT TO BE THE MOST STUCK UP AND SNOBBY ACTING GROUP OF RIDERS TO EXIST IN THE SPORT.

I DONT RIDE ANYMORE OF COURSE, BUT AS YOU ALL KNOW, I OFFICIATE AND WATCH EVERY BRAND COMPETE TWICE A MONTH AND WOULD HAVE TO SAY THAT THE HONDA 400EX IS THE MOST RELIABLE OF THE BUNCH.

YOU RAPTOR GOOFBALLS NEED A LESSON IN MANNERS AND RESPECT. THE RAPTOR WAS COPIED AFTER THE 400EX. THE 400EX WAS COPIED AFTER THE 250R. ANYONE DISAGREE?? WELL, YOU ARE A GOOF AS WELL.

BUY THE 400EX. THE RAPTORS ARE JUNK AND WILL PUT YOU IN A GROUP OF DISCRIMINATORS.

Knowitall you are right when you say the 400ex is the most reliable quad available at the moment. My '99 400 has been a bulletproof machine. My brothers raptor just lost second gear and messed up his clutch basket as well. But you are definitely WRONG when you say the raptor was copied after a 400ex. These are two totally different quads all together. Please explain to all of us goofs how you can backup your statement.
