I had the same problem with a 600 i had it in deep water and some got inside the drive select its easy to fix though, there is a little screw on the bottom of it unscrew that and the water should drip out you may need a hair dryer to dry the inside real good then it should be fine.

I had a 99 with the same problem. Exactly as the Greengriz said. Water gets trapped inside the shifter. As soon as Winter set in, it froze. You couldn't shift. Do as he suggested. There is a small screw on the bottom. Warm up the shifter or just let the machine run for a while and you be surprised how much water pours out.
