Raptor not running right!
#1
Raptor wants to spit and sputter when given gas, idles a little rough. It's about 30 degrees today last rode it Sunday when it was almost 60 with no problems. Is it running lean or does the carb need to be cleaned? If it is the carb, how do you go about cleaning the bowls or whatever else?
Thanks for any help.

not giving us much info to work with, any mods? what altitude? plug ok? are you doing routine maintenance? how does that air filter look?
does the problem get better or worst with a little bit of choke? you should not have to do anything to the float bowls particulary if you never pulled the carbs, but if your airfilter is f&*(*ed up you might get some sand/dirt in there

The only motor mods I have is the K&N filter. When I removed the filter today I noticed that the seal was not sitting on the filter correctly along the bottom, not sure if there was a gap or not. Otherwise the filter was clean.
I have not checked the plug yet. If it is white is it running lean?
It seems to run worst with the choke on at all.
I do regular routine maintance and have also done the valve adjustments.

the k&n is a bit tricky to get in there right, hopefully nothing got past it. about the plug: white is the sign of lean conditions but to get a good plug reading you need to ride for at least a full minute at the throttle level you want to check, so if your problem is at 1/2 throttle run it at 1/2 throttle for a minute or longer and chop the ignition (use the cutoff or the key) dont let it wind down, then pull the plug and check, plug readings can be misleading due to additives in gas though, but can give you some idea of what is going on

I have put the stock filter back on.
I just said screw it and tried putting it in 1st to see what it would do and it just started running perfectly after I gassed it.
Is it just a fluke or is there something that needs to be fixed/cleaned?
Do I still need to check if it is lean?
Thanks.

well if your stock filter works well and the k&n does not the problem is lean, i didnt get a good feel for where in your powerband this was happening, if it happens when the rpms drop and you are coming back on I would recommend going to bigger pilot jets (25's), if it happens at mid throttle it is the needle jet--> get a dynojet kit, if it happens past 3/4 throttle go up a bit on your mains

Look real close at the point where the carbs go into the motor side boots. They will blow out if it backfires, cold air will lean it out abit. The carbs will sometimes seat back into the boots and are hard to detect. If so put them back on and turn up the idle till it warms up outside, or open the idle screws 1/2 turn and up the idle if you are going to ride alot in the cold. hope this helps
