Those are symptoms of a motor running lean. Specifically, it is lean either on the low speed circuit (pilot jets) or the needle based on the description of your symptoms. What kind of mods do you have?

definatly lean condition, could be caused by a leak on the intake or jetting. make sure your carb boots didnt blow off

Get your self a jet kit and an air fliter like the pro flow..you will be all set. The raptors are jetted way too lean from the factory. CHECK YOUR BOOTS! evrytime your bike backfires you chance ripping or blowing your boots off. I just got the updated boots for my 2001. You need to richen up your carburator. I have a DYNOJET kit and KandN air flter with a Yoshimura Fulll system. Tha problem went away once i got the jet kit in. do it and you willl be extremely happy.one of the best mods you can do for less than 200 bucks.. Where aer you located?
