I have a 2000 Yamaha Grizzly with almost 4000 miles on it. I have already replace a header and a few other parts. My problem now is that I have cracked the welds that hold the cross member on the rear, and the frame in at least 2 spots. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to fix it. It is a well used quad and has had its share of air time. Do you think that jumping it was the main reason for the fractures? IT is riden rough on the trails too!!!
Thanx for all the input

I would, but I can't afford a new one. Plus, it kinda has some sentimental value--the weekends in the woods with my girl, and it is my first quad.

There's not much to help a cracked frame. If you weld it, you weaken it. Jumping a grizzly? Man thats like putting a 500 pound guy on a horse, thats harsh lol.

Sentimental value or not, pretty soon that bike might not be able to be ridden. It'll just progress as you ride it. If you cant afford a new grizzly, try selling it outright, and buying maybe a scrambler?

Anyways, good luck man.

IF you weld, just add some extra gussets for reinforcement.

weld it up and gusset it.it should hold up fine.although i recommend not airing out a grizzly a whole lot just way to heavy, something has to give and it was your frame seems like.

Put some thought into this. If you weld over another weld, its going to be weaker. Your melting the metal twice, and letting it cool back into place. I really think you should avoid the same weld. If its something you really have to do, then by all means do it. I personally would not, even with extensive brackets. Resale value wont be good, and if they know what to look for, they wont even consider your quad.

I don't know what PRS is talking about. Unless the frame is "hardened" welding should not compromise its integrity. As far as I know it's just steel tubing. Go ahead and have a good welder do it,(welded, not brazed) and cut out the jumping....it'll last many more years.
