Case saver . . .
Trinity Racing (trinityracing.com) has recently introduced a billet 6061T6 Aluminum case saver that looks great. I have one on my machine. I question the ability of Nylon to protect the engine case in the event of a chain failure.

I asked the same ? about nylon vs aluminum. this is what i was told.
the nylon will absorb the impact of the chain and the alm will transfer the energy of the blow to the case. and possibly break off the bolts holding the case saver on an crack the case.
so who knows ill leave the tech stuff to the experts...

my question is , look where the sprocket gaurd is bolting to the engine case. two lousy bolts, and there is not enough material on the upper bolt location to hold or absorb any type of chain failure. i have already broke the upper mount of the case. this is a very weak design. so i believe adding a case saver won't save your case. i have had no chain failures and i already have a broken upper mount. keep your swingarm bushings/bearings tight and watch the wear of your sprockets &chains , keep your chain tension adjusted correctly and you won't need a case saver. if someone makes a case saver that bolts to something more solid than the stock location, than i'll buy one.

There are a few features on the Trinity case saver that I believe make it to one to have.
First, the aluminum will absorb energy by deforming and allowing metal transfer during a chain failure event. Second, it is CNC designed so that it almost rests (for support) against the generator housing. Third, if you are using a 13 or 14 tooth front sprocket, it has a narrow clearance to the chain to help prevent the chain from doubling up or skipping a tooth. Since I would never install a 12 tooth front sprocket, this is a good feature to consider.
I will stay with the aluminum and take my chances -- chances I might add are better than I feel a piece of nylon would provide.

well, i agree with bigdaddy. the bolt cogs (i think there called) that hold the cover on are going to be the week link. but something is better than nothing i have talked with a few case saver manufactures and they refuse to make one because of the design!
as for the nylon. well first it is made on a CNC it 1.5 inches thick and fills all the extra space behind the sprocket. i have worked with nylon in machine shops before and is very durable.
to each his own...
