No....it's not mine....yet. After getting my latest ATV SPORT mag, I was reading up on the lastest "34th annual Roof of Africa Rally".

<< Despite starting more than 15 minutes behind the leaders, Dallie Terblance rode his Yamaha Raptor to a day 2 victory. He finished more than 15 minutes ahead of the next closest rider - De Villiers - who had started the day ahead of him. >>

<< Terblanche later succumbed to a malfunctioning gearbox on his Raptor >>

Just passing the info. along........

Did it say what year raptor he was riding? Even so those desert races are brutal, transmission problems are common place for any machine in these conditions. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying there isn't a problem with the '01 trans but you can't fairly base a machines quality by these races.

The mag does'nt say what year the Raptor was......but checking with Yamahas web site indictaes that the '02 black/white Raptor has yellow front springs, the Raptor shown in ATV SPORT that developed problems has white springs....it's an '01 Raptor. Still appears to have the stock headpipe + h-pipe guard as well.
How many '01 Raptors do we read about don't finish these major races because of tranny troubles compared to other atv's? Thats my point.

Yeah, it does sound like an '01.

As I rethink my post I would like to say that these races can be an indicator of what problems there may be with a machine. These races do point out the weakest part of a machine, which is the first thing to go under stressful situations.

garyc660R,
Well, that's not want I wanted to hear this early in the day. I guess I am going to have to double up on my favorite drugs today.
Wonder if it would help if I drop a Spam wordSpam word Spam wordSpam word Spam wordSpam word Spam wordSpam word Spam wordSpam word Spam wordSpam word  in the oil next time to make the gears harder. I would sacrifice one if it would help.

IM TELLLING YOU SOME PEOPLE JUST AINT RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!! Hey, I hear about not being right but I have an excuse. I was a breach birth so that explains everything about my whole life. I came out backwards.
Maybe that's it some Raptors were breached. It just figures I would purchase something's that was backwards.
I have said this before if garyc660r transmission goes I know mine will not be far behind.
