#1
I WILL BE COMPETING IN MY FIRST SAND DRAG COMPETITION THIS MAY AND I HAVE TWO QUESTIONS? (1/8 MILE DRAGS)
1. SHOULD I DROP DOWN A TOOTH ON MY FRONT SPROCKET OR ADD ONE?
2. SHOULD I DO A FIRST OR SECOND START FROM THE LINE?
( ANY ADVICE WOULD BE HELPFUL)

Is an 1/8 mile 100yrds?
I do 100 yrd sand drags at Atoka OK. I start in first gear with stock gearing. I tried a 2nd gear start with 10 paddle 22X11X10 Haulers & it bogged BAD. I just got my 12t & 14t sprockets & will try diffrent gearing next weekend (if the 7" of snow we got today melts!). I crossed the finish line at about 7300rpm in 3rd gear at 47.14 mph.
I'm 6'2" & weigh 275lbs if your smaller or your tires don't have as much hook you may be able to do a 2nd gear launch.
If they have a test & tune go early & pracice diffrent launching styles till you find one you like.
Be sure to build a wheelie bar if using paddles or you will never get a good launch because even as big as I am there was no way to keep the front end down on launch. I'll email you some pics of a wheelie bar I made to give you an idea of what you need.
BEWARE sand drags are addictive!! moose, that is freakin' sweeeet. you said you made that? make me one. haha. what is the top brace bolted to? do you still have use of your rear suspension? i have used my wheelie bar a few times but the practice times was always slower with it. the rear wheels were actually too small and acted like a plow most of the time. i just haven't got around to finding a wider, flatter tire like yours.

I made a bracket that goes around the rear shock linkage mount. You will need to make some braces that go from the top of the mount to the swing arm to keep it from moving forward when there is pressure on the wheel.
I tie down the rear suspension so I can properly adjust the highth of the wheelie bar. Also pre loading the rear suspension,I put a strap from the rear grab bar to the wheelie bar & tighten it till there is as little suspension movement as possible,This allows for a harder launch.
The wide wheel makes a big diffrence.
