ALthough the design between the Fortin gears and the 2001 gears might be the same, Yamaha changed the gear design for 2002. I am wondering which way to go when I change mine. I think I will go with the 2002 gears from Yamaha due to the change in ratios. I ride a lot more on tight trails and homemade MX tracks.

The torque multiplication has taken place at the wheels. More stress has been removed further up in the driveline ie. the clutch and tranny. Im not sure what the stock gearing is on a raptor but, if you gear it lower (just like going from 2.73's in a car to 4.10's) it will definitely remove stress from the tranny. It does help torque multiplication, but this is at the wheels.
