I've got 4 buddies I ride with regualry and 3 of them have had MAJOR problems. 2 of them have had great support from Polaris while the other has had nothing but complaints. The biggest problem was my friend Jason was behind me on a trial. About 10 min later I stop not to see Jason anywhere. A couple of miles back I found him with 3 wheels left on his quad that were intact. The right front wheel/hub somehow came off left him stranded. My 400EX had to pull him the rest of the way home

Hey GE4x4 if you don't want to hear comments like mine earlier then stay out of the Yamaha forums, oh yeah and if you like that one how about this....the Grizzlies are more reliable because the 700 is a Polaris!!!!

I own a Grizzly unlike most of the people who post stuff about them on this, and alot of the other forums. Most of those are negative posts... how can you honestly bash something you don't own and probably have never riden on, or with someone who does ride one... thats what I'd like to know. I like SilverBear ride the **** out of mine, and in plenty of water up to the lights and let me asure anyone who is curious.... there is no water issue with the Grizz, sure you can swamp it but there isn't a CVT trannie quad you can't swamp... unless you have snorkled it! If most the people who have issues just used a little common sense maybe they wouldn't be having their issues.

How can you call what I said was a bash? All I asked is what proof does he have that say's the Grizz is more reliable then the 700. There both first year models and both have bugs to work out, so how can he say the Griz is more reliable then the 700. I would say your post was a bash saying it's more reliable just because it says Yamaha. And if you look at any of my post, you will not find a single bash about any atv. And yes I have riden the Griz, in fact I think the Grizz is a great quad and I've said it many times. It's when people say it's more reliable without facts, then I will say something.

i think i am going to get some heat over this one, but i just have to respond.
I own a 2002 grizzly, and i love it, but!!! if anyone wants to talk to me bout a water problem, i will tell you it is there, and it is bad!
if you dont beleave me, they you should see my quad, in pieces, on my garage floor. my belt and pullies have 10 lbs of dirt, sand, and water packed into them. i have gotten it all apart, and have cleaned it out to a like new state. it has taken me 4 1/2 hours, and i havent gotten it back together yet.
i went into a mud hole, and was o.k, till water started going up to the middle of the seat, then it started to happen. i know i aint supposed to go that high, but sometimes it happens. no water in the oil, or even in the airbox, but the belt and housing is trashed!!! i am not putting it back together till i get all the stuff to snorkle it. i could always use some advice on exactly what all should be snorkled while i am there, lol.
so, if you think all is well in grizzly land, i would tell ya, it is great for the sirbox, as well as the oil breather, but the air vent tubes that breath the belt, they are one **** pore design.
anyone who knows me knows i love this quad, but i just couldn't beleave it when i started pulling twigs out of the clutch and the tank didn't even get wet!!!

Mich,

It doesn't matter what brand of quad it is. If you go into water that is deeper then you CVT tranny tubes, you will suck water. That doesn't make the quad "afraid of water".

I have spoken about my friends girl f's quad in a previous post. It is a true pos. We can't stand riding with it because we end up pulling it back too much. Problems have been: eats fuses like candy, wouldn't start, seized piston, bent axle. I can assure you she doesn't ride this quad hard. It is completely stock except for the new piston and axle. It is a 2000 model 500 i think polaris POS. Another bud had a 300 that kept breaking down. He finally rolled it down a hill (rolled completely over once), and he had to buy new handle bars and plastic then sold that murf and bought a wolvy. I am not saying that Yamaha's are over all beter (I think they are but thats just my opinion), i'm just saying that from what i've seen with my eyes they are without a doubt more reliable and durable.

If any one has any questions on the water issue here's a link to a pic of my bear stuck. Stuck Grizz Please note, not an once of water anywhere in the tranny or airbox. Why? Because I didn't dunk my intake/exhaust openings on the Tranny or Airbox.

The Grizzly is not afraid of water, unless you play submarine, and in that case every belt trannied quad out there could be labeled as "afraid of water".

take it easy silver bear. I am sure if you read these forums regularly and realize I am not the only one complaining about the grizzley and raptor problems. If your grizzley has been good to you, great. I know machines like the raptor in their first year can have their problems but what gets me the most is that Yamaha is not doing anything to help. I don't know about you but I hate to see my fellow Yamaha riders getting screwed after paying 6000+ on their new top of the line sport quad. I definatley know Polaris has many reliably problems as well, probably more than Yamaha but from my experience Polaris stands behind their products better. Good luck with your griz silverbear, have you checked out the 686 kit in 4 wheel action on it? It looks alwsome.!

PCBanshee~

I do read the forums quite a bit...actually too much.

I can tell you that the majority of "water issues" with the Grizzly started out with folks hitting the diff lock while in the water, or hitting the water, and not realizing there is a 3mph speed limiter. You likely know what it sounds like when you bump a limiter..."sputtering"..., then there are actually quite a few new folks in to quads now adays, and they don't understand CVT tranny's intake/exhaust, nor where they're located, which on the Grizz is right under the racks, front and rear. Now, I will agree..the Grizzly could certainly be snorkeled better, but as long as you don't dunk those vents, you won't get water in it. At least I haven't on my Grizzly.

I do know what you mean about getting screwed by Yamaha. I paid 200 dollars shy of $8,000.00 for my Grizz out the door. But, more so then Yamaha, I have found that it is the dealer to be concerned with. I actually will not recommend a Yamaha product to anyone unless they have a repuatable dealer. A owners experience can be awesome or horrible depending on the dealer, because Yamaha will stand behind that dealer, usually 100%. The dealer I bought my grizz from blew me off on the front left axle sliding out, I called Yamaha, they "stood behind my dealers decision, it's not a problem"...found a different Yamaha dealer, and they fixed with no questions asked, and under warrenty. So Yamaha dealers are very key, and unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be as many good ones as bad ones.

I don't own a Raptor...yet...but I have read enough that is sounds like the 01 trannys were junk, and Yamaha is jerking owners around on it...but again, I think the ones I've read having it fixed w/o a hitch are the ones with reputable Yamaha dealers. Just my own thoughts on that.

Lastly, I would also agree with you on Polaris dealers. My brother in laws polaris's do have reliability issues, (not so on the SP700 so far), and the dealer is amazing. I have seen the 686 kit the FST put together, and actually plan on doing that with my Grizz. That will likely happen later this year, so far I've been totally amazed at the power gains with the aftermarket exhaust/modded airbox, jetting, etc that I put the 686 kit off for a while. Sorry for coming off so harsh...

Hey silverbear let me know how that 686 kit is if you get it. My best friend has a 2001 raptor and I am sure you would like it. I bet you heard of all the banshee owners who said they could kill the raptor in a drag race. Well I would like to see this because I have raced the Raptor many times and it is too close to tell who is really faster. I can usually just inch by him on pavement but he can beat me where traction is an issue. After I put on my pc pipes and took the snorkel off I still have trouble finding the traction to beat him. With my mods though I am now a good 10mph faster than him on the topend. The raptor is also much better on fuel and runs cooler on those hot summer days. You don't have to mess with jets all the time either. If it weren't for the reliablity issues for the raptor I would almost be sorry I didn't buy one. Well I better enjoy my shee while I still can because in a couple years I will probably be no longer able to buy a new one with all these new emission standards.
Still nothing feels like a banshee when accelerating that pipey motor. By the way my buddies Raptor has had no tranny troubles yet even though he doesn't have many hours on it. Knock on wood.
