i've got an 88 banshee with the old frame...i'm wondering what i need to make the cross over to an a-arm frame....is it even worth it...don't get me wrong its a very solid frame but i think it has to be retired because of its age

There is really nothing wrong with a J-Arm (early style) frame. Sure there not quite as strong a the A-arm style, but the difference is minimal. I had a 1989 J-Arm frame and never had a problem with it. If you frame isn't severly cracked, bent or rusted nearly into, don't bother, the frame you have will work just fine. Options if you want to change:

1) There's a company that makes a conversion kit. Buy it and weld it
in.
2) Buy an A-Arm frame 1991 (I beleive) or newer, a set of Upper A arms
and just transfer all of your parts over to the new frame.

I did number (2) myself as I found a incredible deal on a new frame.

thanks

do you remember the conversion kit company....this came to me from searching ebay and seeing frames going for no more then 250 and A-arms not going more then 50 bucks......the frame is definately solid and strong, no bends, no breaks, the real reason i wanted to do this was so i could beef up the suspension but can't really find any j-arm kits....ahhhh maybe i am just wasteing my time

I have an 88 banshee that I did just what your talking about... I have been very pleased with the results. At the time I went through atvracing in Arizona for the kit and their upper a-arms (fully adjustable) Timmyboys is now doing a weld in kit also for a little less money. I have pics on my site when I installed the kit from atvracing. (see the link in my signature)

Here is the link for atvracing and here is the link for timmyboys

I also did the conversion on a 89 banshee and it worked great. As long as you have some welding skills and comon sense its no problem.

Well it uses a stock top a arm from a 90 or newer banshee and normal banshee shocks. Takes about 30 minutes to weld it in place.
