I called my congressmans(Roger Wicker) office Thursday about trying to get some help getting these trails reopened. Explained how dirty the corp has been about the closing and that I had 1500 sigs on the petition. Got a call from his office on Friday, and they have the nerve to tell me:

1. The Sierra Club doesn't want people using the land and they provide proof their petition signers are registered voters

3. The corp COULD start a petition to overide mine.

4. They had lots of calls from hunters wanting the land closed

2. They will take no position on this matter because we can't make everyone happy in the deal

Unlike members of the Sierra club I have better things to do than sit at home, eat vegetables, and harrass gov. officials all day. I have a real problem with people who don't want to use land trying to get it where I can't. Yes the corp COULD start a petition but they haven't. I have a hard time beleiving that a lot of hunters want this land closed to atv's. I have a lot of hunting buddies that hunted the land when they could use their quads to get to thier spots. I find it unacceptable that 1500 of my congressmans constituents want some help and he refuses because it might be controversal!!!! This man just lost any vote he might ever get from me and many others.

Could you explain the registered voters thing to me? Even if they aren't registered they are still citizen to which the congressman is responsible to.

Who cares what the Sierra Club wants they don't seam to care about what the rest of us want.

The Corps is a deptartment of the interior correct? They wouldn't start a patition using Tax payers money to support a plan to keep taxpayers off the land would they.

Hunters not using quads? How the heck do they get to their stands and get the game out? Horse, jeeps? They could provide a list of Hunters that called, right?

Can't make everyone happy? Well at least their correct there but they should at least be willing to set guidelines for land use for Everyone.

Same thing in Ca. you vote on a law pass it and than it's not enforced.

smitty,

We think a lot alike. I called B S on all that stuff while we were on the phone and then the only thing he would say is that "We are just gonna let the corp decide for themselves" over and over.
