I am new to this forum, I just purchased a 97 Wolverine, it is in good condition bone stock origional tires---my question, when running full bore in high gear, the motor pulls fairly hard all the way to top speed until the engine has no more load on it, then seems to start to miss slightly and back down in RPM's a little, am I floating the origional valve springs, or is there a rev limiter on this machine???
If I am floating the valves, I am going to do a complete top end job including cam, chain, valves, springs, new piston,K&N kit,and a pipe.
Any answers or suggestions appreciated, Where can I get a good Service Manual? Thanks

I'm not really sure what the problem could be, mine will stay at the same top speed until the motor lets go. I was clocked at 63mph and I could hold it there for as long as I wanted. That was with just a jet kit on a 10 deg. downhill slope. In stock form I could go right around 60 and it would still stay there. The bike may actually have a rev limiter but I don't think you will be able to hit it in stock form. As you can see my list of mods below and the LRD intake includes 3 2" holes in the aix box lid, and I top out right at about 64-65mph with 23" tires and I havent had that happen or hit a rev limiter yet or maybe im hitting it and it doesn't slow you down but just keeps you at that steady rpm. When I put the pipe on it, it actually made a it rev about 500rpms higher. Right now red line is like 10,000rpms. So therefore I dont think it has anything to do with a rev limiter. If it only does it at about full throttle then you can take the bottom of the carb off and check your main jet, it may have foreign material in it or you could have got some bad gas or have some water in it. Look in the back of the owners maunal about troubleshooting - poor medium and top speed performance. Just for the record I was racing a Scrambler and passed it on top speed and held it at top speed for about 300yds on a really long straight.
