i noticed the other day when my raptor was warming up that there was a hint of blue smoke coming out of the exhaust. i blipped the throttle and i got a larger puff of blue smoke. it seems to go away once it's warmed up. i've always used yama lube 10w30 and my last change i switched to the synthetic yamalube. my question is: is it caused by the oil switch, or is it time to adjust my valves . any help would be great.
thanks

Sounds like a combination of both the different oil and valves need to be adjusted.

Hopefully it is just because of synthetic oil because if not then you probably have leaking valve seals or piston damage. Maybe try running the non synthetic oil you were using before and see if the smoke disappears. Good luck.

From the basic's that I remember, typically, if smoke is only there @ start-up it's usually the valve seals. If it smokes riding down the trail/road under power, It's piston rings. I heard something about full sythetic's having more of a tendency to leak than conventional oils, but I can't remember what was said. I think the synthetic was thinner in form and so will leak out of places (gaps) where coventional oils won't/can't. If thats so, it's possible that the synthetic oil is getting past the valve seals into the combustion chamber, Anyone?

rudedog is right, Generally if the smoke goes away after your warmed up it wouldn't be the rings it would be the valve seals. Just switch back to your old oil and see if it is any better.

Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but 2 of my friends that have 01 Raptors both tore their motors apart (one lost 4th gear, and the other wants to stay with me a little longer), and they both had a little blue smoke at start up or when they revved-up th motors.......Anywho, all 3 intake valves on both quads where worn quite a bit. I didn't notice until I held one of the old valves up against a new one, but there was quite a groove around where the valve seats. I guess the rings were good in both, it was just the valves worn down and didn't seat tight or sumthin, but I suppose the valve seals could've gone bad, too......
