Banshee Jetting....

Hi Guys,

Getting ready to put my FMF pipes and Silencers on my Banshee this weekend and I want to pick up the jets that I may need.

I checked FMF's website and they have a jetting guide that recommends a 260 main and a 30 pilot for the Banshee. Do you think that sounds about right?

One other question...There is a note next to the 260 main that says "Snorkel is removed from the Airbox lid". Now, I trail ride this thing and obviously it gets into water sometimes and I am guessing that without the snorkel it will lose some of the protection it has from water getting into the airbox.

Also, I am guessing that the removing the snorkel lets more air come in as well right? Rather than removing it would I just be better off putting in a K&N filter or something? It would probably still be a little rich, but I'm not a racer and as long as it isn't robbing too much power I'd rather be running it a little rich.

Any input you can give would be appreciated. Thanks.

Oh I forgot to say that my machine is Stock everywhere else, and I ride at 500' elevation and a little above. The temperatures can range from 30-85 degrees, but it's typically between 60-80 degrees.

That snorkel is actually smaller diameter that the carb bell. Before putting the pipes on, remove the snorkel. This will show you how restrictive it is. That is the cheapest horsepower you can get on a Banshee. The opening will be more prone to water, but going slower in water is worth the speed you will gain in the open. The rest of the airbox is also very restrictive, so if you leave the lid off, the 260's will be dangerously lean. With stock carbs, FMF pipes and factory airbox on one of mine, I had 270's. If it is possible, I would get 260, 270, and 280's. Start rich and come down till it runs smooth.

Thanks for the tips. After doing a search on the board I see that a lot of people are running 280's - 300's with a similar setup as me.

I'm still debating on whether to leave the snorkel on or take it off...The performance gain sounds great, but I know that there will be times when I get into some deep water on the trail. I try to stay out of it anyway, but sometimes it's not avoidable. Do you think that I would still be able to go through water over the rear tires (slowly) with that removed?

I don't ever plan on riding her with the airbox lid off...way to much dust around here.

What you need first is a pro-flo (or comparable).
My brother trail rides has 00 'shee with no lid. He does gets water in his box occasionally not really a big deal if you are using a good air filter oil. Start with 300 mains and 32.5 pilots.....and go up or down on the mains accordingly. Add a timing key and shave the head .030....then you will be set with a fast 'shee.
