Confused about preload settings...
#1
I have a 99 Big Bear 4x4 and I am wondering what effect increasing the preload setting on the stock shocks will have. It seems to me that the more I turn the preload adjuster the stiffer the suspension will become? T or F? I know more about offroading in trucks, as far as, leaf springs/shock combos. Softer springs with stiffer shocks are prefered. I have a 93 Toyota truck that I have converted to a solid axle up front, so I've done some suspension stuff. From what I have found out using the search feature, the rider's weight plays a part in the setting? I weigh about 250. Another question, could the increased preload setting increase ground clearance? I guess I'm looking for the pros and cons of increasing the preload setting, and in what situations it should be done? I ride hard pack dirt trails 60%, sand 10%, mud and water holes 30%. Thanks, sorry for so many questions, Chris.
