I Want The Best Of Both Worlds, How Do I Get It?
#1
I sand drag & go to the dunes at Littla Sahara once a month on my Raptor. Next year they're building a new track in my area so that's 2 sand drags a month. I also enjoy trail riding in the woods.
The problem is I want to put on an extended swing arm for the sand. I would like to go 4~5 inches, but that would hurt me in the tight woods trails.
I thought about finding another stock swing arm & having it lengthened 4~5 inches for the sand & putting my stock swing arm back on for the woods. However this would require changing swing arms 3 or 4 times a month & that would be a pain in the A$$!!
I've seen a bolt on extension that moves the carrier back 4.5 inches & you don't have to remove the swing arm to install it. But i'd still have to change it 3 or 4 times a month.
Has any one removed & replaced a swing arm? How long did it take?
Does anyone have the bolt on extension? How long do they take to put on & off?
Or should I just split the diffrence & get a 2 inch extension & leave it alone?
I'm looking for opinions & Ideas I haven't thought about.
I don't want much, Just the best of both worlds!!

Buy you another Raptor! One for the dunes& races, and another for the trails. Just start racing for money, and in a few months BAMM!! another raptor.

I have had to remove mine twice. It is not that bad but it does take a little time, like 1.5 hours. You could do it faster after a few times and a few less beers but you know how that is. I think if a +4 was too much for the woods I would go with a +2. I am trying to lye to myself, if I lived as close to you do to the dunes and the +4 was to long for the woods forget'em. Who likes the woods any way?

+2 should be a reasonable compromise, its hard to spend that much cash and not get exactly what you want though, are you seriously worried about endo's? those hurt so if you are facing that little bit of roadrash it might be worth the full +4 and some loss in the woods

I say get the 4.5" extension and change it back and forth. A bit of a pain yes, but you will develop a system that makes it quick and easy, and you will truly have the best of both worlds. Anything else will be just a compromise. Look at it like this, you'll get to spend a few more hours a month with the one you love
And by the way, where is the new track they are building going to be at?

JPBRaptor the new track will be in Tonkawa, I race now in Atoka.
So far I'm leaning torwards the 2" extinsion, but keep the ideas coming!!
Oh yea the Fire Dept doesn't pay enough for a dedicated drag quad so that's out!

I ran a +2 on my 686 Raptor it was great for dunes and Desert but a little long for MX track (SpeedWorld) IMO ..But You Could Get a Wheelie Bar For Dragging only....And When You Dune or MX just pull off the wheelie bar and run the Stock size.......Also then you don't have to mess with changing rear shock because of (additional leverage) from longer swingarm, which would also affect front shocks...~~~~~~~~~~~~ WHEELIE BAR & STOCK ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~problem solved..Digger

Yes the ASDA Heartland Nationals are this weekend. Lots of very cool quads & dragsters from all over the country. I'm going down tomorow for the test & tune (I need to work on my reaction times!). I'll be pitting in the main pits with a friend of mine. Look for the red enclosed trailer with a black top fuel chassis turbo VW & a red turbo buggie. I have a blue 02 Raptor number 114 with a chrome wheelie bar.
You can see what my Raptor looks like on My Web Site I hope I see you there!!
Fastn2002, I've got a wheelie bar (you can see it on my web site), My main problem is doing tree shots at Sahara. I got so much power & traction it's hard to keep the front end down while climbing.
