Have had my raptor for a week . I REALLY like it.Changing gears for the first time is not a big deal at all.I have probably 6 hrs on it so I am still taking it easy, but it is still a blast to ride. Thanks again for all the help...J. Prentice

Thrust....It does not feel tippy to be at all but I was riding a Polaris Sport 400L that is now my sons.So I don't notice it being tippy.

TrexxRaptor....Yes this was my first manual clutch bike and it was not as bad as I thought. I rode a 01 model and the gears felt too tall and that made it kind of tuff for me,but I bought the 02 model which Yamaha has changed the gearing. They lowered I think all of the gears and to me it made a big difference. If you are like me, I rode mine on a trail ride for about four hours and it felt like I had been changing gears all my life. You just have to get the feel of the clutch. I hope this helps

Sport,

Congrats.

On the manual clutch, you have some stuff to learn, so be patient. You may go through 1 clutch learning how to start and stop on the steep stuff, and be in the right gear. Give it some time, and take it easy.

Then learn how to wheelie. You will realize how much easier it is to ride aggressively on the Raptor than the Sport. I had a Scram and an Xplorer, so I know what you will go through.....

You bought a really great machine.

Enjoy,

RM

Thurst; Hold on for a minute. I have a 01 Raptor & in normal riding it doesn't feel tippy. When I ride my bike aggressively I use more body english than when riding normally, if I wouldn't use my weight; then yes it would feel tippy. I've yet to turn my by over & I do feel that the stock tires with the stock air pressure grabs....like crazy so I do feel that is the reason it does that. Just keeping it real!!!!!

Thrust-- No bs, the Raptor was born tippy. I went with TCS zero preload shocks for the front{factory rear is great}. The shocks help the quad sit a little better and make it much more stable by being firmer. The tippy feeling starts in the front by being so soft. Next thing needed is a wider booty; add a plus 4 in. axle and then you are ready to rock not roll!!
