I'm buying a new quad and I've narrowed it down to the polaris 700 and the grizzly 660 I like the looks of the polaris as well as the stock tires, but looking at the Polaris forum it looks like it has some reliability issues. I was wondering if any of you guys have gone head to head out on the trails against the 700 thanks.

 

as for the quads, i think there really well matched. speed, there bout even. power, about even. grizzly owners will say theres are better, and so will the polaris owners, lol.
the only real differance i can see is the weight. the griz comes in at around 150 lighter.
the polaris seems to have just a few small problems i am sure there working out.
the grizzlys tires suck big time, and wont be long till your installing aftermarket tires on it.
they both work real good, and both have great suspencions, though the grizzly's is totally adjustable!
the dash on the grizzly is way cooler than the sportsmans, and offers a fuel gage, the sportsman doesn't.
they both ride like cadillacs next to most 4x4 quads.
they both have aftermarket add ons that make them fly!!!
they both have great top end. they both can wheely if you figure out how to do it.
i say ride them both, and then deside.
i chose the grizzly couse of the weight, and polaris has had a not so good reputation on the endurance side of things! if its true or not, who really knows exept for the polaris owners.

We ride with a 700 and the only problem that he has had is the cv boot. Nothing big....BUT the reason that we chose the griz is DEALER. Keep that in mind when you purchase your bike....the dealer will make or brake your deal. It is really nice to have a dealer that will go out of the way to take care of you bike and take care of your needs.

One other reason for not getting the 700 was the width. That really doesnt matter to most, but for us, we travel alot of really narrow tech. stuff and the extra 3 inches will get ya in trouble. YES the stock tires suck on the griz, but i really dont like the mudrunners that much and would have replaced them. So cost wise...was another factor for me.

Both bikes are great....i just hope that ya get the chance to come up and play in our playground with the bike you choose!!!

i went through the same thing about 3 months ago. I could not decide between the grizz, prarie, and the 700. I decided that either the grizz or the 700 would fit my riding style the best, becasue of the irs. after investigating it over and over, i finally decided on the grizz mainly becasue of reliability and weight.(just my opinion based on viewing lots and lots of posts, don't flame me here.)

 

Is really a personal choice,,but the Polaris has severe problems with coolant leaks at waterpump and headgasket is resorting to either making U wait or in some cases replacing engines untill they get a handle on the problem..,,so If U are sold on Polaris wait untill next years model comes out,,otherwise get a Grizzly or check out Kaw. prarie 650 for comparison..

 

Owners of both quads have had problems. The majority though have had none, and there really isn't any major issue that would veer me from one to the other.

They are very evenly matched. Go with the one you just like best for reasons unknown. You'll make the right decision.

 

how much should a person expect to pay for a new grizz? how far can you go on a tank of gas?

 

Not sure on the '03 models, but the '02 models run a person anywhere from 5995.00 ta 7200.00 (not including tax). It really depends on your dealer and from what i see, your area in the country. The west coast seems to have to pay the highest for some reason, midwest seems to be the cheapest, and east coast has both high and low...lol

As far as a tank of gas, the griz has never been empty on me and i have went 100 miles on one ride. I am not saying that i wasnt on reserve, or that i wasnt sweating bullets.....in the middle of NOWHERE!, but it will take you as far as any other quad out there, if not farther. The 700 that we ride with, he seems to use a lil more gas (no gas gage either) and has a smaller tank...that actually might be the problem...if i remember, the next ride....i will see if he will fill up with me at the gas station so we can see the exact amount that we used compared to miles. Usually, we fill up out of a can and it is harder to tell. I know that my can says 5 gal, but when i fill it up at the stations, its more like 5.5 gal to the fill line. ???? are the gas stations robbing us on amount?!?!? lol

Both of the bikes are large machines and USE the gas...but an average daily ride costs me 7 bucks for the two bikes total. I think that is not a bad price to pay for a smile that will last the whole week. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

My grizz likes to wheelie right out of the box high or low range. As far as milage maybe I haven't loosened the engine enough...no that's not right, it just guzzles gas I used to only have to take a couple extra gallons for a day riding my honda, the grizz will drain the 5 gallon tank and thrist for more ( 5 gallon jugs ) soon.

 

Thanks guys for all the info I'm leaning toward the grizz now. I'm still overseas as an activated reservists so I have another month to decide can't wait to get back to RIDE!
