well i finally got my long awaited 589's. the auto shop down the road said he could change them for 5-10 dollars.

well i thought i would get it a try and save myself some $$. so my buddy has a bead breaker, so i though, perfect. i take it over there, pop the old ones off, and slap the new ones on. NOT! we tried to get the damn thing off for nearly 2 hours with no luck. The bead breaker did'n pry it down far enough. so he called his dad for advise. he said to use the vise becasue you need a concentrated amount of pressure.
so we tried that and got the stock tire pinched rubberto rubber. so we put a tire iron in it and tried to pry it out. that still didn't work. so we tried the same setup with a screw driver, guess what, no luck. by this time i was swearing up and down, (that didn't work either) [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

is there any kind of trick i can use to do it myself and save some money. i'm not defeated yet, i just don't want to ruin the tire cus i want to sell them.

 

Pay the 10 bucks atleast you won't scratch the rims.

 

I ahve had the same luck on that venture. The only thing I can tell you that might help is try a hammer. It worked for me once. Put your knee on one side and hit as close to the rim as possble by your knee, not on it that just leads to more swearing that still doesn't work. You should also have the rim blocked up so it doesn't get scratched. The larger the head of the hammer the better it works. Hope this helps.

 

it's $10 a piece, so that would be 20-40 bucks. that's why i wanted to do it myself. hopei can find a way to do it. I thougt about the hammer idea but a guy at work adi he spent 2 hours with a hammer on one. I also don't want to hit the rim.

 

The stock tires are a M-F to get off,,,too soft a sidewall..I changed mine on a car tire changer at work and mounted my dirtdevil/589 combo.. It is worth paying someone unless U have direct access to a tire changer...U will not get the job done,,,the 589 tires are 6 ply and need a huge amount of air to seat the beads...

 

Pay the money its worth it. Like someone else said here once you pay $3000.00 - $7000.00 for a bike then bitch about $40.00. Does not make sense to me.

You best bet is take them to the dealer. Being the stock tires on the stock rims and never been broken off before, it is going to be a bitch! If I have to break a bead at the track I used a 2x6 place it on the bead and drive my truck up on the wood. works all the time for aftermarket tires and rims. tried once with the stockers and it still wouldnt budge, good luck if you are going to keep trying, more than likely it is just going to get you frustrated.

 

try driving over the edge of them with a 3/4 or 1 ton truck!! it has worked for me for 5 years now! good luck!

 

my same friend has a 1960's jeep, think that'l work. i was worried about the chains onthe tires puncturing the tire. i think i will stop screwing aroung before i mess something up, than i'll really be mad trying to sell a set of 3 tires. lol.
