Setting up Raptor for sand!
#1
I have a 01 Raptor with K&N Proflow, Sparks stainless steel X-6 exhaust, and stage 2 (Dynojet) jet kit. What sprocket gearing and tires should I run for Little Sahara? I am thinking about 12/40 and a set of 8 paddle haulers. What size? What about taking off the air box lid? What size jets or other adjustments are needed. Where should I get the jets, Dynojet? Rear wheel spacers? I appreciate any information you can give me.

Rear wheel spacers will help a lot.
I have the Sparks X6 with stainless head pipe, Pro Design adaptor with K&N & outerwear, & 5~1" Uni Vents in the lid.
I run 146~148 Dynojets, Needles on 4th groove from top. & Air corrections 3 turns out.
The elevation is less than 1000 feet.
I wouldnt remove the air box lid because the sand at Little Sahara, Oklahoma is very fine.
I run 8 paddle 22x11x10 Extreme Haulers on 9" wide rims & they work great on my 02 Raptor. They are the best sand tire going IMO. I also use the 21x7x10 Mowhaks on the front & I can turn without any problems.
Check with Jim's sand toys On the tires they are just outside the gates at Sahara & have exelent prices & usually have the tires in stock. If you buy them over the phone & pick them up there you can save shipping & tax. His site is still under construction but you can get the phone number there.
I weigh 275lbs & have no problem getting around with stock gearing. If you plan on drag racing at sahara the 12~40 may work OK also.
When are you going? I'm there at least once a month & a large group from ATV connection are going to the Atoka Sand Drags on Aug 9 & 10 & then to Sahara for 4 days.

Thanks for the info. We are going July 3-7. Will we have trouble getting a camp site if we get there around 3a.m. Wednesday night Thursday morning? Since you mentioned the air corrections, one of mine is seized up. Any idea's on how to break it free.

Yea you may have problems finding a site since the 4th is a Thurs. It'll be packed. See if any other ATV connection members are going to be there & camp with them. You might try outside the North campground gate, there's over flow camping there or the private campgrounds where you turn off the HWY to go to the North camp ground.
On the air screw the only thing I can think of is turn the carb upside down & let it soak in WD40.
