"My opinion" is to go with the R. The Rap will always be heavy and is not the ideal mx machine in "my mind". The Rap sits up high which is also not ideal. Even with good shocks and ext arms, the geometry of the Rap is not ideal for mx. You need to also consider the trans issue. This depends on hard you plan to ride your Rap on the track, but this may or may not be an issue.
Another thought, take a look at what the pros are running. You don't see any Rap's in the pro ranks and "I" don't think you will. If you are just looking to "screw" around on the mx track, then sure, build your Rap, you'll have fun.
Depending on the money you are looking to spend and how serious you are going to get, you might consider building your MX machine from scratch. Aftermarket frame, yz426 or cr450, etc and you get to buy all the components that you want from the beginning.
Again, just "my" thoughts on this subject!

250R. No offense to the Raptor guys meant, but unless you've got lots of money into your quad, the Rap isnt great for MX. The Raptor just can't take the harsh landings the R can. I hate to sell mine

what are the 250r selling for? i found one this week for $4000. this is how it lists...."good condition, factory plastic, works triple rate shocks, curtis sparks top-end, dg alloy nerf bars. very fast, solid bike. i think it's steep. but i think that about everything.

that price is not all that high, but your better off finding one that the motor needs to be rebuild and the shocks are shot but the frame is still good. then you could get it cheap put the parts you want on it and have the motor set up the way you want it. just my thought that what i did

I would probably go with the 250r for MX over the raptor due to weight issues. If a guy could afford it I would get a c-dale over the other two, when it comes to MX. Otherwise the Raptor reigns Boss.
The raptor is more of a straight line, trails, dune hopper, harescramble machine.
