I got done with my wheelie bar and lowering my Raptor tonight. I gave it a quick test in the parking lot and the new design on the bar works way more better, sorry Redneck humor. I am going this weekend to Mark's Track in Brookhaven to see what it will run, hopefully a 5.2. I going to run my stock tires and see how they do before I get some Pro Wedges. I still lack paint and lightening technique but that will come later. Even later than that I am going to a 686, finaly got permission from my wife/finacial advisor. I'll have to wait till Aug but hey its something to look forward to right.
Does anyone have any tips for me on the drags, this will be my first timed drags.

I race on sand so some of this may or may not transfer to pavement.

Get a good low pressure (0~15 psi) tire guage (around $25) & make very sure your tires have the same pressure in them or you will pull to the side.
I'm just guessing but with the stock tires I think you should start with 10~12 PSI in the rear & 5~7 PSI in the front. You don't want the rears too soft because they'll flex & can make you pull to the side & you don't want them so grippy that you snap your chain.

That brings up another point. With your suspension soild adjust your chain so it has around 1/2 inch movement (maybe less I'm not too sure about that) where your suspension is locked at.

Make sure your weight is centered on the quad, with solid rear suspension (I think you said you were going solid) it's going to be very twitchy & will respond instantly to steering inputs.
Clear your mind of every thing after you put your helmet on (it's a zen thing) pay no attintion to the other lane, concintrate on cutting a good light.
I run a full tree so after both staging lights are on look at nothing but the tree, I pin the throttle when the first yellow light comes on & launch as soon as the 3rd yellow light flashes on, If you see green before you launch your late!!

When your on the wheelie bar if it moves on you keep the throttle pined & use your weight to get straightened back up (this can be scary the first few times), getting on & off the gas will just get you more out of shape. If you can't get straightened up get out of it & abort the run (guard rails hurt bad!!)

I don't know if your running ET or heads up but on your qualifying runs pay close attention to where you shift & try to shift at the same place every time. Consistancy pay off!!

Like I said I'm not a pavement racer so I hope someone who is will confirm what I said is right or wrong.

Good luck!!

good luck!!! my advice....just do it alot. there are some things that only experience teaches. are you racing on pavement? i wouldn't think so with pro wedges. go with the pro wedge 2. the pro wedge 1's treads are too flimsy for dirt. the 2s work better from what i've seen. just relax, but don't sleep on the light.

It will be a good turnout I think because every ones aching to drag because of not running in so long.

You wont have the usual raptor problem of poppin up.Glad to hear you got It goin.I got a set of spair pro wedges,If you need them?

Yeah this one is on the dirt. The grudge match on the pavement won't happen for a few months because the Vet I was going to race lost its motor Fri. Tire pressure was one of the things I wondered about 10-12 sounds high to me but I'll try it and see. I am ok at sifting consistantley as long as I can hear my bike, I can't do it on the vibration alone for some reason.

efg are they on rims already? I would like to try a set before I bought some.

Thanks for the help guys.

ward660r You might want to give a 14 tooth sprocket a try. Thats what I run on my raptor with good results. It gives me a better launch.

Since I am running my stock tires I think I am going to groove them. They are getting worn down so it won't be a waste if I mess them up. Down the center of the Z pattern I am going to cut a .25" slot. I don't know if this will help but it might and I can't see it making things worse.
