I have been using Uni spray -on filter cleaner for several years with good results .You just spray it on your filter inside & out, let it sit for a few minutes, & rinse the filter out in the kitchen sink with warm, not hot, water. After it is totally dry Spray the filter with a good filter oil such as Uni or Fab 1 by Maxima. I like Fab 1 because it is really sticky, which holds the dust & dirt & doesn't let it all go thru the foam . After spraying it on squeeze the foam gently to distribute the oil thruout the foam. Some use regular motor oil but I don't believe it has the dirt attracting qualities of a special filter oil, and after all, your filter must attract the gunk or it goes into the engine.
By the way, Maxima also makes Chain Wax which is an excellent lube for your chain.

I usually wash mine out with soap and warm water. I dont have any foam filter oil but I use Marvel Mystery Oil for the filter. If you read the bottle, it says it is good for foam filters. I'm not sure if it's better than brand name filter oil. Sean Sicher
