I'd like to hear your experiences and feedback about the accessories of the Yamaha Wolverine (older than 1996).

(1) The PIAA lighting system
- any problems with sealing (I've read alot about non sealed lights) -- I love mudding and riding in all conditions

(2) Location of the warn 2000 lb winch
- I've seen pics of wolverines with the winches located out in front, see http://www.yamaha-motor.com/access/wolv_h.htm. That looks low to the ground... is it possible to physically fit a warn a2000 winch up by where the oil cooler is (that is behind that cheap plastic protector)? or are there any kits where I could fit it behind that plastic thing?

Thanks again y'all...

Eric

I have a 98 wolverine and I had one of the lights go out after getting stuck in a creek.Water leaked into the light and blew the bulb,I did'nt even know I had the lights on!The only place I believe a winch will go is out front.I had a superwinch 1500 I was going to put on but I saw it was gonna have to go on front and scratched that idea.If you're gonna get in some seriuos mud put some bigger tires on for sure. With the stockers on you'll be scraping bottom.

I have a 95 Wolverine and I've never replaced a light bulb in it yet. I dont like the factory and aftermarket winch mounts either, so I made my own. I removed the headlights and ground the welds off that hold the headlight bracket to the frame. I then repositioned the bracket at the top of the front frame rails. It kinda looks like a Warrior now but everyone that sees it likes it.By the way if you have a front rack its gotta come off to do this.I dont have one anyway. Then I took a piece of 1/4 " plate 6" by about 9" and sat it where the headlights used to be.I then welded it to the frame along the front and the sides where it contacts the frame Then I mounted the winch to the plate. It fits there perfectly in between the two front frame rails. Its also up nice and high so its not down in the mud when I am.

As far as the winch mount goes you can buy a mount from Oxlite that will locate the winch in front of the oil cooler screen, or you can order a winch mount from Cabelas that will locate your winch behind the front tubes and just in front of the oil cooler. If your going to do serious mudding with a Wolverine you'll have to do some mods. such as bigger tires which will require more power from your atv and this adds up to more money. You may want to consider a Sportsman 500 or a Rancher or a Kodiak, don't get me wrong now, I love my mud ready Wolverine but if was going to buy again I would choose a Sportsman 500,real four wheel drive, ground clearance plus the power to turn serious tires makes this atv hard to beat in the mud!!!!!!

My brother has a wolverine and has had a lot of light problems. He siliconed around where the wires go in and that stopped the water. At least until he ran into me and broke the lens oh well. A friend of ours who also has a wolverine took the oil cooler and homemade a bracket to place it further back and mounted a warn winch on a homemade bracket where the oil cooler is suppose to be. He placed the fairlead in place of the cheap protector. This works well and has been used several times.
