My 87 big bear runs great now. The shifts a firm and positive but its rather hard to shift. Will increasing that little clutch thingy on the side of the crank case help this any. I was planning on adjusting it in very small increments until the desired shift is obtain unless I am going to damage something.

Please Advise

If it is like our 2000, then you would screw it in until it touches something, back it out 1/4 turn and lock it down. I have to do this frequently.

In order to decrease clutch freeplay, you have to turn the center screw counter clockwise until you feel resistance and then back it 1/8 turn. This is according to the manual.

To increase freeplay, you turn it in clockwise.

I would try adjusting it according to the manual and then go from there.
