Stock Raptor, Hot Cams Inc 13 Hp +/-

The problem with hard welded cams is that they also have a tendency to outlast the stock rockers - so chalk up a few hundered more for harfacing...
Camshaft wear, in my experience in an ATV engine is a non issue, so I can't see the argument there.
As for the cost - I guess the jist of my point is that the cam grinders may like to complain about volume when questioned about price, but it doesn't hold much water when Hot Cams can grind a brand new cam from a new casting for less money than they want for simply a ground OEM cam. No screwing around with cores either - very nice....

Well I NOW can attest to the power of this Stage 1 Hotcam - I'm am a living witness. It has some serious midrange pull! And it works well with the JE 11:1 and DynoJet kit. Instant throttle respond and a hard pull all the way to the top! I think it is an investment,
I agree with WSHRDSKIN, it IS well worth my money for the difference that I can feel. I know I made the move on the piston at the same time. But the difference that I have with the two mods, is well worth it all.

Eraptoid....good too hear you are back up and riding! As of yesterday, the Fortins are installed (I was reluctant in the purchase!) and I am waiting on my 10.75 JE (Hotcams stage 1 on shelf). Would you mind elaborating on the performance difference? Are you running pump gas? How has your jetting changed (if any)? Thanks pal!

Congratulations on the Fortins Gary! If they would have had them in the '02 ratio at the time, I would have gotten them. You should get the piston soon. I don't see JE holding ya up long.
I am running pump gas as of now. I filled her up with Amoco 93 and took her to the Badlands for the first ride. I may want to experiment a little later on with some 98-105 octane. But from what I see with the 93, I am plenty happy with just getting pump gas!
If you are on a surface where you can get some grip, the thing pulls awful hard. Raptors have this thing, when you punch them, they just want to bite and go, arm yanking power. Well now it seems that I have a two stroke thru the first 3 gears (I am not kidding). Shift from first to second and the tires break loose and spin all the way to redline; again, shift from second to third, breaks them loose immediately and keeps them spinning to redline! Hell, fourth gear spins over half way thru as well. I am running Shredders and it is free spinning these tires like they aren't even there! I've run these tires since the day I got the quad, so I know how they USED to hook up. I definitely need tackier tires now.
That cam and piston combo is awesome!! The DynoJet kit performs REALLY well with this set up too. Instant response! I wound up with the DJ 155/160 with the needles in the 4th, and mixture screws 3 out. I only have the restrictors cut out of my snorkle. I have not removed or modified the lid. Tooooooo damn dusty around here!! Real bad, just ask my wife about Saturday!!!
I do have some minor probs to deal with tho, so I'm not 100% yet! It has to do with the lower end. But the Raptoid runs like a scalded dog and couldn't be happier about that!!
Later guys,

I can also attest to the worth of this cam!! I rode this weekend at approx. 7000-9000ft & acceleration was truly awsome!!! Can't wait to try this beast out at Dumont & Glamis!!!!

Good to hear RaptorRyan!! Glad everything went well for ya. And I too am so ready for some sand again. After all, that's where my downfall occured. We are going to S.L. in Sept, I'm looking forward to it.
I've got to pull the clutch cover on mine to see why the downshifting is "notchy". Swy gave me a great place to begin looking. So that is the next step for me. Hope it is "somewhat" of an easy fix.
Gary let us know how you like the cam's performance (along with the H.C. piston). I sure do like the combo! Oh yeah, that reminds me, I need to update my signature....

I am at about 600-650ft. Sorry, I guess I forgot to mention it.
Yes, please let me know when you find out how it went/goes?! I am very interested.
It sure does wake the beast up, alot over a piped and jetted Rap! Have you noticed the "two stroke" hit in the lower gears too? What tires are you running again? I'm getting alot of tire spin, which isn't always a bad thing. I will use it all up on those 10 paddle Skat-Trak Edges!
Moose if you're out there, you were right about the sand tires a good while back!

Gary, I was previously at DJ 146/148 and slightly on the lean side. We went up to the 155/160 at the rebuild. It is not any where close to "fine tuned" as I consider it still under break-in. The plug may be a little dark, but for now is okay. The bike pulls very crisp and hard to the top with no misses or stumbles any where in it!
I will not mess with tuning until I get fully broke in and the above mentioned, fixed. I was unable to put all the hours on it that I wanted to Saturday because of the above mentioned. Or the break in would be complete now - IMO.
