YZ426!!
#1
Can anyone speak knowledgably(?) about how the 426 runs in a quad, anyone ever rode one?
I was just wondering, What about putting the YZ426 motor in the Raptor? Would it have more power in stock form than the raptor? and wouldn't it accelerate alot faster?
I made have read it wrong, but I thought one of the mags had an article on two quads, one with the 426 motor, the other with the CR 450 motor. It said that these have "two stroke-like acceleration". CAn it be true?

This seems to be done quite a bit now so, it should not be a big deal if you work with the right people but, I would not put it in a raptor frame. An aftermarket frame would be more flexible for this purpose. Be prepared to spend a fair chunk of change on it.
You should be able to find a 426 motor more easily now.

Why not use the Raptor frame? I already own the Raptor. Could just make some custom mounts and then work on routing the exhaust. Right? I mean if I wanted to spend that kind of money on an aftermarket fram, I might as well just buy a race built one from someone like hauser.

A 426 motor alone will cost 2-3K so if money is the issue then, I would just mod your raptor. It has a lot of potential.
The reason the I would not do a 426 in a raptor frame is that you could get a lower center of gravity and therefore a better handling quad.
My 2 cents

I know nothing of building a custom quad.If you do decide to go with a custom frame you should check out houser-racing.com.They sell a whole 426 frame with long travel a-arms and other goody's on it.Good luck

I am not sure what one would cost. I suppose a yami dealer could tell you prety quick. If you are thinking of selling your motor then ebay might be an interesting option or contact one of the quad builders and they might want it for a desert racer or the like.
I am not trying to downplay the whole concept, it's just you already have a bike with a lot of hop up potential(detuned from the factory). If you like the frame geometry then just make the motor what you want with mods. It will be a lot cheaper and easier. The 426 will not be that much faster stock to stock to justify the cost.

The TRX450F's aren't readily available at your local Honda dealer as of this week
Another issue to consider is resale value(assuming you are like any of the rest of mere mortals who might flinch at losing $6000 on a bike hobby)...If you go to resell this frankenquad, how much are you wiling to lose?
Another option is to sell the Raptor and buy a C'dale Cannible and get the moto mapping. That is a quad that pulls like a two stroke off the showroom floor.
