Now you're talking man. Thanks Greg, that will help alot this weekend when I go to check the valves. Do I need to buy that special tool, the tappet adjusting tool and if so where can I get one asap? Thanks for the help.

If you mean the tool with the feelers to set the valve lash............if you can get one, go ahead. I used shim stock that one of the Tooling Guy's gave me where I work. I trimmed them down to the width of a pencil and rounded the ends. The intake valves are cake to get to, except for the fact that you have to remove the front cowel, front fenders & fuel tank to get to them. The exhaust is just really tight to work in, especially if you have large hands. Make sure the bike is cool when you do it & take your time, speed will come. The Moose can probably do it in his sleep.

I would suggest getting the shortest 10mm wrench that you can. Either that or one one Craftsman 10mm wrenches that look like a watermellon rine. ha ha

Good Luck.

While you there check out some of my other folders. I have been trying help others through my struggles. There was a lot of times that I would liked to have had actual photos of some of the things that I have tackled.

No, im not talking about the feeler gauges, i'm talking about this little tool thingy , the Tappet Adjusting Tool. It was on Eman4000's link that he sent me. Anyway, I will definitely check out the rest of the folders. Thanks for the help thus far.

I haven't used that tool, but it may be helpfull. Especially on the exhaust valves.

I just used a short 10mm wrench.

Oh ok, so all I need really is some feeler guages and a 10mm wrench. Cool. I was under the impression that the tool was a necessity. Thanks Greg.

Mrmonk I know what you are talking about. You don't have to have one but I think it would make it a little easier. Instead you can use a very small cresent or a pair of needle nose pliers. Most Yamaha shops carry one of those tools, even one as pathetic as mine, for around $12 I think.

Hey eman400............That white stuff was there originally. I imagine is some type of thread lock.

That tool may be helpfull, I may look into it too. But you don't have to have it. But if it helps doing the exhaust valves it would be worth the $12. I usually end up "Using The Force" to set my exhaust valves.
