I have read a ton of post on here about cutting up the Raptor air box as well as running it with out the lid. I have been debating what to do for a while. I was running a Twin Air, air filter with the snorkel removed, and Dynojet stage 2 kit. But I have been worried about the stock filter cage set up for a while, because of all the bad things that I have read about it. I didn't want to take a chance on ruining my engine if that stock setup didn't work. I was cleaning my filter the other day and noticed that the foam seal around the stock filter cage was coming off. That was the last straw for me; I'm not taking any more chances. I bought a Pro Design filter and a PPD Aluminum air box with no top. I had seen dyno runs of Raptors with no air box lid that was very jagged. I was told that the stock air box with the lid removed would create a lot of turbulence. I was also told, that if you run an after market aluminum box you wont have the turbulence due to their design, and the fact that they are bigger allowing more airflow around the large Pro Design filter. Has anyone had any experience with this? I just dropped my Raptor off at the shop to have the Aluminum air box and Pro Design filter installed, and let them rejet it spot on. I let the Dealership do it since they have been really good, plus it won't affect my warranty.
I will report back later for those that are interested in the results, but I would like to here from anyone who knows about the aftermarket aluminum air box?s.

Hello,
I have the Pingry aluminum air box. It is the same one Curtis sparks sells. I am constantly working on the Raptor and riding it hardly any so I cannot tell you about any kind of difference in hp. I don't have anything wrong with the Raptor and never have had. Just modifying it. Right now the cylinder is at Sparks racing(going to a 686cc at 12.5 to 1 compression). The head, intake manifold, valves and sort are off being ported by Kocinski. All transmission gears and moving parts are at HPC being coated along with a few of the engine parts. The other engine parts will go to HPC as soon as they return from being worked on. Going with Sparks largest cam and already have in hand (at the engine builder) the 35mm FCR carbs, Sparks X6 exhaust, Pingry oil tank, & etc. Running Elka Elite shocks, front and back, with LS +2 chrome a arms, Billitanium hydraulic clutch with all Hinson components. Sam Cole transmission gears. DC Performance sway bar. Durablue axle with LS sprocket hub and brake hub and Durablue front and rear hubs and aluminum lug nuts. Sidewinder sprockets and chain. Ac Racing Propegs and rear grab bar, Duncan chrome front bumper. Douglas aluminum wheels and American Racer tires. LS anti-vibe steering stem, Renthal handle bars. Front mastercylinder and and brake handle form a Kawasaki ZX900F1 motorcycle. Of course braided brake lines and a few other goodies. Oh, a start push button from Cannondale.

Just how big is your pipe? My Sparks is 2 1/4" next to the air box & I still have 3/4" space between them!

Thanks for the info guy's. I can't weight to try it out. Although, now that I will have the increased airflow, I am starting to want another pipe. A full system. I have been reading good things about the DMC Alien.

Aak Raptor, Arkansaw sure does have some funny named towns. I visit Russiville about once a twice a year and have seen some oddball names like Opposum Grape( spelling? you know the animal). Isn't Marmaduke a cartoon in the paper?

Anyway sounds like you have a VERY nice Raptor.
