Anyone use one of these hitch carriers to transport there quad on the back of a SUV (Expedition)

Mines is like this one except it extends farther out away from the truck.

Sometimes i wanna leave the trailer at home but wanna take my quad with me, i found one on sale for $50 bucks and was thinkin of stading my quad on it's rear tires upright and resting the front tires up on the roof/ rear hatch area of my Expedition. The carrier maxs out at 500 lbs so a Raptor @ 400lbs would not exceed the max weight.

Well i can understand not wanting to tow the trailer all the time the question I have for you is what happens if you rear ended? Yea your gonna have one big mess tying the quad down securly also raises another question.
