Sputtering while using dif lock
#1
I have an 02 Grizz 660 with everything stock on it. I have about 30 hours on it and have the following problem. Everything appears fine in 2 wheel and 4 wheel drive, but when I use the diff lock I can't go faster than maybe 3-5 MPH when the engine starts to sputter and backfire. I have never used the diff lock before so I can't say if it has always been like this or not. Any ideas?

the grizzly has a rev limiter while in locked differentials. the speed for foward is 22mph, and for reverce it is 8 mph. this is greatly reduced if tourke is put into the mix. in some thick mud grizzly's have been known to sputter at 2 or 3 mph, due to the ammount of gas, tourke pushed. in reverse some have not even been able to turn the tires while in thick mud, due to the limiters.
there is good news though!!!! both limiters can be bypassed for as little as $5.00 each, and as little time as 15 minutes!!!
there are numerous people who have directions on how to do this. or you can post questions on it.
as a quick and easy test, you can lock your diffs, and slowly give it some gas. if you walk it up, you can hit 22 mph in foward. if you just romp on the throttle, it will spit and spudder. this is the limiters engaging.
just a tip!!! remember to adjust your valves at 20 hours, or now if you havent yet. this is a must with the grizzly.

i can tell ya how to bypass the diff limiter for going foward. it is quite easy, and can be done for nothing, by just cutting a wire, lol.
remove the seat, and look in the electrical area. there is a cdi box. it is the big one with the 1 screw holding it on. on the bottom of it, in the wire cluster, there is one wire that is all white. you cut that wire, no more front diff limiter.
now, some like myself have taken a wire from one end of the cut white wire, and ran a wire to the bars and connected it to a switch. then run another wire back and connect it to the other end of the cut white wire. this will allow you to hit the switch to bypass your diff limiter.
silverbear has details on how to bypass the reverse limiter.
also, in highlifter forums, there are a huge ammount of people who have done the bypasses there. if you go there and do a scearch, you'll find tons of info!
good luck!!!

are you sure the sputtering is the limiters? could it be the problem some have had with tight valves, improper jetting, and needing the heat shield material applied?
I ask because I have a stock machine, have not modified the rev limiters and no sputtering in any mode (low, high, 2wd, 4wd, diff lock, limited slip, etc).
just a thought to what else may be the problem.
good luck!
