The slides on a Raptor are vacume operated they won't move if the engine isn't running.
If you take the carbs off you'll see butterflys on the engine side, that's what the throttle cable actuates.

i agree with swytak on the valve spring issue.i had a 696 cam with stock springs and the intake valves were always too tight everytime i ckd them.i do have to say i had the same problem with my stock cam also,it just didnt show up as offten,im not shure if its caused by bad valve material/and or springs.i changed both this time.i also know of sevral stock raptors that are rode on the street that have tuliped the valves,one of them pulled it through and droped it.these are owned by some kids in town that ride around with guys on crotch rockets so im shure they see alot of HIGH rpm use
