I am considering the 2000 Kodiak for my next purchase and was wondering what is the life expectancy of the drive belt? Also, how often does Yamaha recommend that you change it?
Thanks in advance.

Don't think belt life changes due to brands so I can tell you I have heard they last up to 4000 too even 7000 miles I never looked at mine and it's over 2500 miles. When I do finally chnge it I will be getting a highter strenght Dayco belt I seen used on drag race sownmachines. You can not just by any belt for the Kodiak though because it has groves on the out side of the belt as well as the inside due to it's different kind of engine braking system.

I don't know about the Kodiak but on my '98 Grizzly I had around 8500 km's on it before I traded it for my '00 Grizzly never touched the belt.maybe it was worn out don't really know, but it seemed to work fine.
